Arrival

 

I arrived at the site before the rest of the group and decided to visit the site alone first.

 

To get to the site there is a pathway up through a field which then turns left and goes along the bottom of another field before a right turn to go right up through the field to the top of the hill, where the long barrow is situated.

 

It was a lovely sunny evening and very warm and I was very much looking forward to the investigation once it started to get darker.

 

When walking along the pathway I had the distinct impression of a male presence walking beside me, not matter how much I tried to communicate with him I could get absolutely nothing.  I was just aware that he was some sort of protector of the area and oversaw everything that was going on.

 

On a tree at the foot of the main path to the long barrow there were a number of ribbons tied to the branches.  I have since been told that these are to do with healing rituals.  I was very aware that rituals had occurred here - but this was very simple to work out, due to the ribbons.

 

On arrival at the site there were 2 other people there, one of whom left by the time I had wandered around the outside and had a quick look around the interior.

 

Long Barrow is a long mound with a selection of upright large stones at the front, hiding the main entrance.  There are 3 main stones across the front and then various others either side.  There is a small step to the left side which goes behind one of the front stones, another upright stone is then in front of you, and once you walk round the side of this you are basically in a square area with large stones on 3 sides and the entrance to the cavern on the other.

 

Standing in this area I once again had the impression of many various rituals having taken place here, from protection and healing to dark arts.  These felt more like residual energy left in the space, rather than anything still occurring - although some rituals would have been very recent.

 

The cavern looked very dark from the very bright outside and I suddenly thought I should have bought the torch up with me.  However, once my eyes had adjusted and I entered I discovered that glass panes had been installed on the roof enabling some light to come in from outside.  There are 5 main areas once inside, 2 small areas on either side and 1 area at the back, this was the largest of the 5.

 

Meditation

 

I took the opportunity, whilst alone to sit on the top of the entrance to the cavern and settle into a meditation.  It was perfect, with the sun above and I felt very much protected and at ease. I immediately had the feeling of water all around the area, almost as if sitting on an island.  I felt the presence of many spirit people watching with interest and also someone in particular sitting to my left.  This male connected with me, he had the air of being in charge of the others and pointed out that the land would have been a lot flatter, before the rolling hills which are now there.  He showed me a village of men, women and children in front on the area and to the right slightly, this would have been quite a walk away from the actual cavern itself.  He also talked about another burial site - one would have had the important members - including himself placed with care, the other where the less important members of the community would have been placed when they became unable to look after themselves or dying.

 

I felt a real sense of loving and care around the area, and it did not feel at all oppressive.

 

Dowsing

 

I returned to the road to meet with the rest of the group and we headed back up to the barrow.  Interestingly, another person also mentioned this man on the way up as well.

 

In the entrance square we looked at dowsing and asked questions such as was it OK for us to be here and to perform dowsing - this was confirmed to be OK. We asked about the amount of spirits there and came to the conclusion when we got to over 50 that we were probably surrounded by an extensive number.

 

We went to the rear cavern to perform the same dowsing and questions, but were interrupted by the arrival of a couple who had come up for a night-time picnic!  We decided to hold fire for a short while until they had left, then another couple of men turned up and proceeded to sit on the top of the barrow to drink lager and have a smoke.  This then meant that we couldn't control all of the surrounds, but we decided to carry on as they were quite happy to leave us to what we were doing.

 

1st Session - Inside the Rear Cavern

 

We returned to the rear cavern to finish the dowsing, confirming that they were happy for us to be with them and that we were surrounded by spirit.

 

We then stood, without any light, asking spirit to draw close and make themselves known, but either noises, touching, lights or sound.  I felt cold draughts and a dripping sound - however - there was noticeable water coming through one of the stones towards the rear, so this could quite easily be water dripping from behind somewhere.

 

I then had the distinct feeling of a female drawing near.  My legs felt very strange as if the knee caps should be in a slightly different position to where mine were.  I felt a lot smaller and thinner in the frame, but my arms felt quite long.  The lady said she was not laid to rest here, but felt very much as if from a very long time in the past.  She also talked of her people passing over at around the ages of 25 (in our workings)  but somehow they were classed as much older in their time.

 

I then had a male presence draw close and his frame was very similar to the female.  He had however, been crushed by a large stone which had fallen on the right hand side of his rib cage.

 

I was also very aware of water rising up the walls of the area and I had the distinct impression that this had been flooded at some points.  There was also the very clear sense of a large stone being used to roll across the front of the entrance to block off from the outside.

 

Once again I picked up the loving, caring feeling of the atmosphere.

 

Someone else pick up details of a man who had been placed there with his brother.  He would have been the king - or leader - but would have had a crown of flowers or shrubs?  Would he have been the same man I connected with on the top in my meditation??

 

We picked up cold draughts and tickling sensations.

 

We also heard various noises - but these could easily be created b the dampness and/or the men on top of the cave.

 

2nd Session - Inside the Rear Cavern

 

I re-entered the rear cavern, after a short break outside.  We once again asked spirit to make themselves know.  There was a funny sort of grunting sound heard, but I just heard the same noises as I had before.  Once again there was the cold air, after not a lot happening I witnessed a light which appeared to rise gradually from the floor, as if from the back of the cavern, and light up a male (which I am assuming was the physical person we were in there with!).  I then asked for this to occur again, and after a short while it was attempted once more, but without the same result, just a lot shorter.

 

I would love to think this was definitely spirit, but with the men on the top and the glass pane, they cannot be fully ruled out!

 

We couldn't carry on with an investigation outside of the cavern due to our companions, so we decided to call it a night.

 

Conclusion

 

This could have been a very worthwhile investigation, with paranormal activity occurring, if we had had the opportunity to increase the energy levels and spend more time there.  This was shortened by our visitors with their lager.  The light I experienced was very interesting, and I would love to return to see if this can be redone without anyone else above the pane of glass.

 

A chance to investigate the outside and find out more about the rituals which must have taken place there would also be worthwhile.

 

An interesting one to return to!
